1. CPU
The CPU is the core of the POS cash register system motherboard, determining the system's operating speed and processing capability.
Performance requirements: For ordinary cash register functions, low-end processors such as Rockchip RK3288 and RK3399 are sufficient. If POS machines need to run complex catering management software, facial recognition, AI functions, or multitasking, they need to choose processors with stronger performance, such as Rockchip RK3568, RK3588, etc.
2. RAM and ROM
RAM affects the smoothness of system operation.
2GB/ 4GB RAM: suitable for basic functions such as cash register, scanning, printing, etc.
4GB/ 6GB/ 8GB RAM: Suitable for scenarios that require running more complex applications, multitasking, and large data operations, such as chain restaurants, large-scale retail, etc. It is recommended to choose at least 4GB RAM to ensure future scalability and smoothness.
ROM affects system, application, and data storage capabilities.
16GB/ 32GB ROM: Basically sufficient, but it is recommended to choose a larger space to cope with system updates and application installations.
64GB/ 128GB ROM: Provides more ample space, suitable for scenarios that require storing large amounts of product information, transaction data, or installing multiple applications. Recommend choosing eMMC storage for faster read and write speeds.
3. Interface and Scalability
POS machines usually require the connection of multiple peripherals, so the richness and scalability of the motherboard's interfaces are crucial.
USB interface: At least 2-4 USB interfaces (USB 2.0/ 3.0) are required for connecting USB drives, printers, scanners, keyboards, etc.
Serial port (RS232): Used to connect traditional peripherals such as cash boxes, thermal printers, and some barcode scanners, usually requiring 1-2.
Ethernet: RJ45 Ethernet port is used for wired network connections, providing a stable and reliable network environment, especially in areas with poor network signals.
WiFi and Bluetooth: used for wireless network connection and wireless peripheral device (such as Bluetooth printer, Bluetooth scanner) connection. It is recommended to choose a motherboard that supports Wi Fi 5 (802.11ac) or Wi Fi 6 (802.11ax) and Bluetooth 5.0 or higher versions for better speed and stability.
HDMI/ VGA/ LVDS interface: used to connect displays or customer displays. The LVDS interface is commonly used to connect the display screens inside integrated POS machines.
SIM card slot (optional): If the POS machine needs to support 4G/5G mobile networks, it needs to integrate a SIM card slot and corresponding communication module.
M. 2/ PCIe slot (optional): Used for expanding SSDs or other high-speed modules to enhance storage performance or functionality.
4. Stability and Reliability
As a commercial device, POS machines require long-term stable operation, so the industrial grade quality of the motherboard is very important.
Component quality: Select high-quality capacitors, resistors, and other components to improve the lifespan and stability of the motherboard.
Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC): Ensure that the motherboard passes EMC testing, reducing interference with peripheral devices and preventing interference from them.
Power supply stability: A stable power management design can effectively prevent system failures caused by voltage fluctuations.
5. Operating System Compatibility and Customization
Android version: Choose a motherboard that supports newer Android versions (such as Android 10, 11, 12, or higher) for better security, compatibility, and feature updates.
System customization: Does the supplier provide customized Android system services, such as removing unnecessary features, optimizing startup speed, pre installing specific applications, providing OTA upgrade services, etc. This is very important for POS machine integrators.
6. Suppliers and Technical Support
Brand reputation: Choose motherboard suppliers with good reputation and rich experience.
Technical support: Can the supplier provide timely and effective technical support, driver updates, troubleshooting, and other services. This is crucial in the later development and maintenance process.
Supply cycle and stability: Ensure that suppliers can provide stable supply and avoid production interruptions.
